Date Days

Why does it just have to be date night, if you’re like me and an early birder it’s date day for us, now I’m not talking senior special at the buffet, but you might find some good happy hours.

If you take a deep dive, Adelaide’s got a lot to offer and that’s what this site is about, unveiling the gems of Adelaide (and in other states I’ve found along the way), so here are some tips for your Adelaide dates.

Let’s start low cost, some people think date and start counting their pennies, but you can have an amazing date on a budget too. A good way to go is free activities so walks or hikes are always a win. The Mount Lofty Botanic Gardens is a great spot to head; with fern gully, lakes, cherry blossom lane and so much more amazing flora and fauna.

Just 1km from the entrance to the Mount Lofty Botanic Gardens is Brid Coffee Shop, with house-made breads, pies of the sweet variety, and cookies, so it’s a great place to grab a toastie and coffee either to dine in or picnic in the gardens. If you’ve still got a little room in the budget there’s Tapanapa Wines close by where you can grab a glass on the deck overlooking the vineyard.

Lets Get Physical

Enjoy the freedom of movement but want something a little more challenging than a walk in the gardens? Check out Beyond Bouldering, indoor wall climbing, they’ve got climbs for the newbies all the way through to expert (if you’re a newb like me it was incredible watching the experts at play).

With multiple locations in Kent Town, Keswick and Clovelly Park; each suburb features an eatery nearby to satiate that appetite you worked up:

Kent Town – you’ve got Fine and Fettle for your Austral-Asian cravings or Little Bang Brewing to quench that thirst along with a burgers; both just a hop, skip and a jump away.

Keswick – Across the road is F93 with fresh salad bowls, burgers and breaky. Or just a 4 minute drive down Greenhill Road is the amazing Whistle and Flute where I’m fairly certain no one has left hungry. Or head 4 minutes West to the laid back Hilton Hotel for your pub feed needs featuring some ingredients sourced from their own Hilton Harvest Garden.

Clovelly Park – duck down the side streets to the award winning Marion Hotel, relax in their beer garden built around a gorgeous old gum tree; or head up Winston Ave to The Middle Store for some Middle Eastern eats, they never disappoint.

Beyond Bouldering reset the walls every 3 weeks, plus it’s indoors so you can experience all year round!

Feeling Competitive?

You want to know up front if you’ve got a sore loser on your hands, or dare I say…a cheater my fellow Monopoly bankers know what I’m talking about. Start your date at iDarts on Wright Street in Adelaide, electronic darts (safety first) with a bit of friendly competition; you can play general rounds of darts or spice it up with some fun games. They even have a bar on site too, loser buys rounds did you say? Or even better, loser buys dinner with Gouger Street the next street over.

Some faves around the area:

- Mrs. Q for your modern/Asian fusion needs, Gouger Street.

- Part Time Lover to grab some mouth-watering share food, Pilgrim Lane.

- La Trattoria for those old school Italian vibes, King William Street.

My partner and I often laugh about how competitive we are... but I laugh harder.

It's the Iso Life for Me

Grab a game, grab a good Spotify playlist and some wine, your night is sorted! How do we make it just that next level though, the food!! Now there’s obviously the golden oldie, Uber Eats, but if you’re like me it takes me longer to choose a place to order from than it does to eat the actual meal (and I’m a pretty slow eater). If you’re planning a date night in, I great place to support is Chefs on Wheels, born out of the pandemic by some stellar chefs of Adelaide who are continuing the journey even after the easing of restrictions, check out their start up story here.

Not to mention the countless bars, coffee shops, wineries, road trips, outdoor activities and so much more, this is just the tip of the iceberg of your what Adelaide has to offer and I can’t wait for you to join me on the exploration of. It. All!
